A Lame Duck Rallye
Life

Kevin, Athena and I did a car rallye tonight. The theme was "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and while the rallye was really not a very good one it did ring true for one unwilling participant.

Violet the duck never planned on being in a car rallye tonight, but some unfortunate event landed her in the middle of a 4 lane busy street that just happened to be part of the rallye route.

We don't know what was wrong with her. We think she had a broken leg and wing and was bleeding from somewhere, but we just aren't sure. Kevin noticed her as we drove by and when she turned her head realized she was still alive.

So back we went, got her safely to the side of the road and eventually in a blanket and on the way to a clinic that the police said would take her. We made a donation at the clinic and took the number with us so we can give a call to check in on her.

The thing is, even though she was in the road, Violet's injuries didn't look like she had been hit by a car. Athena thought possibly some animal got to her. It was horribly nerve wracking, but I'm glad we happened by in time. Or at least I hope it was in time.

After dropping off violet we finished the rallye and came in second place in our division.

What a night!

Was there something French about this race?

Ooooohhhh! Poor baby. Good for you guys for trying to do something. *hugs*

Ryan: I really have no idea if there is anything french about the rallye. This is the website where this group describes what a rallye is: http://www.therallyeclub.org/what.htm

And I have no idea of Violet was french either. She wasn't up to much talking and I don't really know an english duck accent from a french one. ;)

Ali: thanks. I figure even if they couldn't do anything and had to put her to sleep, we at least saved her from extra pain, fear and torture. *sighs* I'll call today and check in.

Ah, just wondering :-) Rallye is the French spelling of "rally"...thought there might be some type of connection there.

There prolly is.. somewhere down the line. But its a fun game when its done right and while we aren't hardcore into them, we go every few months or so and have a good time. :)

So how is the duck? It warmed my heart to hear that you guys stopped and helped it out. I hope I would have done the same. Just about nothing makes me sad or cry faster than hurt animals. Especially with respect to cars it is so unnecessary.

Sadly Violet the duck was humanly put to sleep. Apparently when it is a series break in the leg or wing there isn't a lot they can do to rehabilitate it. This is okay though, I would much rather a human end than the torture of death by tire.

Still its very sad.

I've been at the vet a lot lately though. Miss Nym has not been feeling well. She is on medication and will be better soon I hope. I'll be posting more about it soon.
