I always wondered about your design.... I love the color in the photos; the vividness is so beautiful.
The repeating feather images offer a contrast-- but they are gray....Which is evocative of feathers....yet they remind one of flames. It seems like a confusing confluence of images/assocations. But overall because it is more graphic than text-based, your site reads very, very clearly, and beautifully.
Thanks for letting me give some feedback.I really enjoy the site.
Robi: Most of the graphic stuff is me and most of the layout stuff has strong amounts of Kevin influence. Though with the design of the blog page (and what the photo page is slowly turning into) the menu ideas were very much mine.
The background actually went through several changes to get to this. Kevin is very good with contrast and the shades of grey changed several times before we were happy with this one. I often wonder if the background is too busy, but when I remove it completely the site doesn't have quite the same life. When I'm a little less busy I might try changing it up some, but that won't be soon.
The front page of the new site is up now. http://phoenixfeather.net. The front page is almost completely me and came fairly easily. The design of the informational pages within are what give me headaches. Basic information WILL be up on that site by Friday before we leave for Las Vegas.
I am determined! Even though it might kill me at this point.
Thank you for the feedback. Its really nice to know that people other than me see both the feather and the flames. Helps me to know that I'm working in the right direction.
I think it would be cool-- or would that be warm?-- if it were red and orange somehow...The colors in your photos are just so alive, and bright, and almost tropical-- Radiant
That's all......the confluence of feathers and flames (of phoenix lore)..it is like it just tugs two directions graphically-- But I really like the site and it is just amazingly colorful and lucid.
No one is the better designer than the designer herself:-)
Oh I just saw the new design-- ever more lucid-- Really beautiful. The colors just seem so warm they are unreal-- in the best sense
Robi: Thank you very much. Color in the background is something I could try out here on the blog side. I'm not sure about on the photo sites. The reason i removed the rust ring that used to have the navigation in photo was because the rust often clashed with the bright colors in my photographs. It would cool to play with here at the blog though.
Where did you find my site from?
I looked up "phoenix feather" on Copernic for something else, then tooled around
Just remember, if Kevin gives too much advice, you can wave Nym in his face and say "Wanna play with the kitty?" :)
Like the new design, Rachel. And I agree with Robi, you have an eye for the bright, vibrant colors (my gf tends to go "ooh, ahh" when you put up new albums...she's a color freak). On the subject of cameras, I'm slowly coming around to the idea of selling my two current cameras (crummy 2.0mp sony digital, and nice Nikon N65 35mm that I *love* and may have to keep) and buying either the D70 or the Canon rebel digital...tho my decision is being made even more difficult by my love of the tiny form factor of the Sony T1... 5.1mp in a cam the size of a deck of cards...mmm...
Ok, done rambling for now. :)
Yes, the colors are the draw as much as anything for me!
Not really tropical/hot colors; not really candy colors; not jeweltones either. .... Really natural yet full of wonder and vividness. The background, whatever you choose, should showcase this.
Excellent!
Robi - I don't know Copernic, but its cool to find out how people find me.
Bix - color is one of my favorite things. I can't paint the walls in the house, so I have to paint the walls of my website. I just made a go at some black and white, which I think worked well despite less color. Thanks for the compliments.
Robi - more compliments, ahhhh! Thanks. I like your description of my colors.
